Welcome to my webspace. 

I am a mathematics professor on the faculty of Westfield State University (part of The Massachusetts State University System) in Massachusetts, USA, where I have been teaching since 2023. Beforehand, I was a middle school mathematics teacher for many years. 

I teach a wide range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education; it would be hard to pick favorites. I have been teaching with Active Learning since 2014, and wrote my M.S. thesis on it. I use a pedagogical method called Solidarity Assimilation that was developed by Roberto Baldino (R.I.P. 2025), Tânia Cabral, and Alexandre Pais. I am truly lucky to have been their student. The three of them also initiated me into the study of psychoanalysis and ideology, which became the focus of my Ph.D. dissertation—and they remain my primary research interests and professional convictions to this day.

My research focuses on theoretical development and philosophical investigations on various topics in the field of mathematics education, but I particularly enjoy researching gender and sexuality, pedagogical impasses, structure, and the rhetoric of the field. My typical researches are ideological criticism or novel psychoanalytic theory for understanding my classroom practice. I am happiest when I am either teaching, working with students (both in formal and informal settings), or reading and writing. My teaching inspires my research (my actual students), and then my research informs my teaching. I find this to be quite a life-giving method of "living life as a Teacher." 

In addition to the above, which are my specializations, I am broadly read in mathematics, education, philosophy, psychology, research methods, and politics. I bring a very interdisciplinary voice to bear on everything I do in academia. 

I am the Founding Editor and Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Theoretical & Marginal Mathematics Education (JTM-ME). I serve as the Director of The Critical Philosophical and Psychoanalytic Institute for Mathematics Education—an international research collective that publishes JTM-ME. 

I am a scholar of the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan.
